{"id":10449,"date":"2022-08-17T12:51:49","date_gmt":"2022-08-17T05:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/?p=10449"},"modified":"2022-08-17T12:56:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-17T05:56:27","slug":"development-initiatives-at-oceania-para-badminton-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/es\/whats-new\/development-initiatives-at-oceania-para-badminton-championships","title":{"rendered":"Development initiatives at Oceania Para Badminton Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>BWF Para Badminton National Level 1 Classifier Workshop<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In conjunction with the Oceania Para Badminton Championships in Melbourne, Australia in July, a BWF Para Badminton National Level 1 Classifier Workshop was held.<\/p>\n<p>BWF Senior Classifier Dr Nevin Aysel delivered the workshop with five trainees from three countries (Australia, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea).<\/p>\n<p>The workshop consisted theoretical and observation sessions, which introduced Para badminton and athlete classification to interested parties.<\/p>\n<p>Knowledge gained by the trainees can be applied and shared when they are back in their countries to further develop Para badminton.<\/p>\n<p>The next workshop will be in Uganda in September. (<span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #003366;\" href=\"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/inclusivity\/classifier-development#1606203458323-b544c2ee-0cfc\">link<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>)[vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221; images=&#8221;10451,10455,10456&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Dorna Longbut \u2013 Receipt of the BWF Female Participation Grant 2022<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Growing up in Papua New Guinea, Dorna Longbut discovered badminton a few months ago, ahead of her debut at the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/badmintonoceania.org\/victor-oceania-para-badminton-championships-2022\/\">VICTOR Oceania Para Badminton Championships 2022<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBack in my country, badminton is not really popular like rugby league,\u201d Longbut shared.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Before her badminton journey, Longbut was a seasoned rugby athlete.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/badmintonoceania.org\/dorna-longbut-joins-the-png-team-to-extend-para-badminton-legacy\/\"><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>A<\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>fter<\/strong> <\/em>her injury, Longbut eventually found her way back to sports, winning gold and bronze at Para athletics events this year<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/a>. And her passion for Para sports goes beyond her individual experience.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPara athletes have a lot of stories about how we take part and get ready, there\u2019s a lot of barriers. But that doesn\u2019t stop us from playing sports. We are seeing other countries and getting to know stories of other Para athletes. It\u2019s interesting to be able to see them compete at an elite level.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Oceania Championships marked the competitive debut of Longbut, who arrived early to practice in the cooler temperatures of Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s my first time in Melbourne. It\u2019s pretty nice but colder than back home! But I\u2019m loving the experience,\u201d she said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Longbut played eight matches across three categories \u2013 women\u2019s singles and doubles and mixed doubles.
