{"id":4256,"date":"2019-04-01T14:02:22","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T07:02:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/education.bwfbadminton.com\/?p=4256"},"modified":"2020-11-25T09:22:25","modified_gmt":"2020-11-25T02:22:25","slug":"sowg2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/es\/whats-new\/sowg2019","title":{"rendered":"Special Olympics World Games 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/corporate.bwfbadminton.com\/\">Badminton World Federation (BWF)<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.specialolympics.org\/\">Special Olympics International (SOI)<\/a><\/span> signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase the growth, quality and frequency of badminton participation around the world.<\/p>\n<p>The shared aim is to ensure that all Special Olympics badminton players realise the positive mental, physical and social health benefits of sport.<\/p>\n<p>BWF President Poul-Erik H\u00f8yer and Special Olympics Senior Vice President of Sport and Health, Drew Boshell, undertook the signing.<\/p>\n<p>H\u00f8yer said the landmark agreement aligns with the federation\u2019s commitment of providing high-quality sporting experiences and opportunities for all.[vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221; images=&#8221;4254,4258,4259,4260&#8243;][vc_column_text]\u201cIt is with great pleasure that I announce that BWF and Special Olympics International have joined forces as part of a greater effort to grow the sport of badminton,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn line with our motto that badminton is a sport for all, we are committed to providing avenues of participation for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we have seen here this week in Abu Dhabi is an amazing platform that allows people of great spirit to show the world what they can do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis partnership will hopefully foster the establishment of more platforms to allow children and adults with intellectual disabilities to experience badminton all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Special Olympics, Dr. Timothy Shriver, echoed H\u00f8yer\u2019s thoughts saying the shared common values of both organisations lent itself to long-term cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecial Olympics is excited to have the opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the Badminton World Federation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur shared vision enables us to create additional opportunities for our athletes to learn about badminton and to experience the joy of the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will see:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SOI recognise BWF as an official international partner<\/li>\n<li>BWF provide high-quality training opportunities, where appropriate to identified Special Olympics personnel<\/li>\n<li>SOI endorse BWF Shuttle Time and its Coach Education programmes as an example of best practice in supporting the growth and development of badminton as an inclusive sport for all;
