{"id":8562,"date":"2021-05-07T19:44:57","date_gmt":"2021-05-07T12:44:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/?p=8562"},"modified":"2021-05-21T17:40:44","modified_gmt":"2021-05-21T10:40:44","slug":"para-badminton-development-initiatives-across-regions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/es\/whats-new\/para-badminton-development-initiatives-across-regions","title":{"rendered":"Para Badminton Development Initiatives Across Regions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dedicated towards making Para badminton an integral part of badminton\u2019s overall growth, BWF continues to undertake exercises to reflect its commitment to the sport.<\/p>\n<p>Following are milestones recorded so far in 2021:[vc_tta_accordion][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;BWF Female Participation Grant 2021&#8243; tab_id=&#8221;1621234936270-22bc5e93-4cf8&#8243;][vc_column_text]Since 2017, scholarships have been provided to over 70 female athletes from more than 20 countries under the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The Female Participation Grant 2021 closed on 26 March with 42 applications from 22 countries and a total of 29 scholarships were awarded to new Para badminton athletes from 20 countries across four continents.<\/p>\n<p>These athletes will look forward to their first international tournament at one of BWF Para Badminton International Tournaments in either Spain, Peru, Uganda or Bahrain alongside the recipients of the 2020 grants.[\/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=&#8221;More information&#8221; color=&#8221;primary&#8221; link=&#8221;url:https%3A%2F%2Fdevelopment.bwfbadminton.com%2Finclusivity%2Ffemale-participation-grant|target:_blank&#8221;][vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221; images=&#8221;8620,8621&#8243;][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;New Nations Arrive on International Scene&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1621234936292-0179b819-7b9c&#8221;][vc_column_text]At the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum 3rd Dubai Para Badminton International 2021 (30 March\u201304 April), Nepal, Kuwait and Maldives made their international Para badminton competition debut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the last month, I was so excited about coming here and playing my first international championships. I\u2019m proud to represent Nepal,\u201d said 18-year-old Prakash Adhikari, who now holds the distinction of being the first Para badminton shuttler from his nation to compete internationally. (<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uaebadminton.ae\/w\/blog\/dubai-2021-para-badminton-nepals-debutant-adhikari-growing-in-confidence#:~:text=Eighteen%2Dyear%2Dold%20Prakash%20Adhikari,for%20the%20last%20four%20years.\">link<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>)<\/p>\n<p>Adhikari, who competed in Standing Lower (SL4 men\u2019s singles and SL3-SL4 men\u2019s doubles), was joined by Kuwaitis Rashed Al Qallaf (SU5) and Ali Fathallah (WH1) and <a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.bwfbadminton.com\/news-single\/2021\/04\/03\/talent-from-a-thousand-islands\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Maldivians Ahmed Fayaz (SL4) and Abdul Latheef Mohamed (SL3<\/strong><\/em><\/span>)<\/a>in making international bows.<\/p>\n<p>Nepal previously participated in the AGITOS Para Badminton Technical Workshop in <a href=\"https:\/\/shuttletime.bwfbadminton.com\/whats-new\/bwf-agitos-para-badminton-technical-workshop-in-bangalore-india\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Bangalore, <\/strong><strong>Indi<\/strong><\/em><em><strong>a<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> in December 2018 as did Kuwait in February 2019 in the <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/bwfbadminton.com\/news-single\/2019\/02\/09\/pathway-for-para-badminton-development-in-west-asia\">UAE<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221; images=&#8221;8628,8627,8626,8625,8624,8623,8622&#8243;][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;BWF Wheelchair Donation&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1621235075709-a81b9099-7474&#8243;][vc_column_text]Through the project, ten countries received sport wheelchairs as part of initiatives to develop Para badminton.<\/p>\n<p>UAE, Fiji and Papua New Guinea received two wheelchairs each while Yemen, India, Kuwait, Syria, Mexico, Guatemala and Peru one each. Players from Yemen, UAE, India and Kuwait used their new equipment at the Dubai tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico and Peru previously participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/LmC024xaPyI\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>BWF Para Badminton Legacy Project 2017<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> in Peru.
