{"id":8740,"date":"2021-06-02T10:00:25","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T03:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/?p=8740"},"modified":"2021-06-02T10:17:43","modified_gmt":"2021-06-02T03:17:43","slug":"bwf-female-participation-grant-a-golden-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/es\/whats-new\/bwf-female-participation-grant-a-golden-success","title":{"rendered":"BWF Female Participation Grant: A Golden Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since 2017, the BWF has provided scholarships to over 70 female athletes from more than 40 countries.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/development.bwfbadminton.com\/inclusivity\/female-participation-grant\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong> BWF Female Participation Grant<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> offers female para badminton athletes the chance to apply for financial support to participate and be Internationally Classified at a number of BWF sanctioned International para badminton tournaments. The grant further supports BWFs goal to increase female participation in Para badminton across all sport classes.<\/p>\n<p>Nine female Para badminton players are reaping the benefits of the BWF Female Participation Grant, all of which participated in the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/bwfpara.tournamentsoftware.com\/sport\/winners.aspx?id=43ad7693-2135-4b30-b17b-faa4ed5e5eef\">Spanish Para Badminton International 2021<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>, the final para qualifying event before Tokyo 2020 Paralympics in Cartagena, Spain last month:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Annika Schroeder (Germany)<\/li>\n<li>Kamilla Malak (Poland)<\/li>\n<li>Ilaria Renggli (Switzerland)<\/li>\n<li>Viktoriia Arapina (Ukraine)<\/li>\n<li>Joana Canudo (Portugal)<\/li>\n<li>Inoi Ferreira (Portugal)<\/li>\n<li>Lefort Maud (France)<\/li>\n<li>Sophie Van Den Brock (Netherlands)<\/li>\n<li>Eniolo Bolaji (Nigeria)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[vc_gallery type=&#8221;image_grid&#8221; images=&#8221;8772,8773,8774,8775,8776,8777,8778&#8243;][vc_column_text]Among a string of recent successful candidates from the BWF female development grant were several debutants at the Spanish International 2021.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/olympics.bwfbadminton.com\/news-single\/2021\/05\/29\/bello-will-always-be-my-biggest-inspiration\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em><strong>Nigeria\u2019s Mariam Eniolo Bolaji<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a> in Standing Lower (SL3), competed as a beneficiary of the BWF Female Participation Grant at the Spanish International 2021 event and remarkedly claimed gold as she stunned experienced player, Oksana Kozyna (SL3) from the Ukraine 18-21 21-14 21-18 to clinch her first gold medal in the women\u2019s singles event.<\/p>\n<p>Astonishingly, Bolaji made history by being the first African to clinch a title at a major para badminton international championship outside of the continent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful to the BWF for this opportunity. I\u2019m really happy,\u201d said Bolaji.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince being given the grant I\u2018ve met some wonderful people and I hope to win many more tournaments. I have made Africans proud of me,\u201d added Bolaji.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;8779&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]Sophie Van Den Brock from the Netherlands also competed at the Spanish International 2021 in the SL4 category in women\u2019s singles and mixed doubles.<\/p>\n<p>Having played competitively for three years in her native country, the Netherlands, the Para qualifying event was the first international outing for the Dutch woman and she expressed how much joy badminton had brought to her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grant has changed my life. It wasn\u2019t the first sport I started playing but I love playing Para badminton. I play women\u2019s singles and mixed doubles but I think my strength is in mixed. It\u2019s so good to have this opportunity,\u201d smiled Van Den Broek.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to represent my country on an international level and it\u2019s thanks to the female grant participation programme that I can do this,\u201d she added.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;8780&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]21-year-old Inoi Ferreira from Portugal also competed in the Standing Lower (SL4) category and the first-timer was thrilled with her debut.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grant has been an incredible journey for me and started my love of competing in Para badminton. I didn\u2019t enter the Spanish International 2021 with expectations, I just wanted to see what would happen and enjoy the experience,\u201d said Ferreira.<\/p>\n<p>Ferreira cited nerves at her first appearance saying: \u201cI was very nervous and I was afraid of being down in the first game so it was difficult to start. I\u2019m excited to play and represent Portugal.
