The 2024 Special Olympics Badminton Coach Training was successfully held in Hefei from May 20 to 23. The training was hosted by Special Olympics International, the Badminton World Federation, Special Olympics East Asia, and Special Olympics China. It was organized by the Shanghai Xuhui District Ailifang Public Welfare Development Center, and co-organized by the Shanghai You Are Really Good Public Welfare Service Center.
In 2022, a virtual Special Olympics Badminton Coach Training was organized with the attendance of 100 participants, as face-to-face workshops were restricted due to the pandemic. Therefore, this workshop is a continuation and follow-up initiative of the virtual training.
Training Introduction
This training aimed to enable 37 coaches from Special Olympics China, Special Olympics Hong Kong, Special Olympics Macau, Special Olympics Chinese Taipei, Special Olympics Korea, and Special Olympics Mongolia to further deepen their badminton teaching methods and cultivate interest in Special Olympics athletes. The program integrated theory and practice, allowing participants to exchange teaching experiences from different regions and establish a coach training system.
At the same time, this training also created a significant platform for coaches from different countries and regions to communicate and learn from each other, share their teaching and training experiences, and showcase their achievements in badminton coaching.
Event Highlights
This training specially invited two BWF Shuttle Time Tutors – Chua Yong Joo (Singapore) and Erica Khoo (BWF Development Manager) – to deliver the BWF Shuttle Time Teachers course. The two tutors delivered a fun and practical training style where the badminton court served as the classroom, incorporating many group activities to ensure interactive teaching among the participants.
On the afternoon of the 22nd, former badminton world champion Wang Yihan visited the training site to participate in the sharing and interaction session in conjunction with the workshop. Simultaneously, 20 Special Olympics athletes from the Hefei Special Teaching Center participated in the training. Yihan personally explained and guided the serving technique, patiently helping the Special Olympics athletes integrate into the training experience, creating a lively atmosphere.
Through this training, everyone not only gained extensive badminton teaching experience and skills, broadened their horizons, and learned higher-level teaching techniques and training methods, but also formed new friendships, adding laughter and happiness to the Special Olympics family.
