Excerpt: Badminton requires open and fast actions towards the shuttlecock, but still there is no specific agility test for badminton players with specific movements. The aims of this study were to develop an agility test that simultaneously assesses perception and motor capacity and examine the test’s concurrent and construct validity and its test-retest reliability. The Badcamp agility test consists of running as fast as possible to six targets placed on the corners and middle points of a rectangular area (5.6m by 4.2m) from the start position located in the centre of it, following a visual sti

Excerpt: This study describes a novel aerobic test specifically designed for badminton players to perform at their usual training venue. The test is based on a mode of training frequently used by players whereby their normal movement pattern is executed around the court without use of a shuttlecock. Although in training, this work is quite random in nature, controlling the distance and speed of movement can allow this to be used as a basis for fitness testing. Data are presented here which have been obtained from national squad junior players performing the test at two phases of their training year.

Differences in greater trunk acceleration frequency in badminton games between high-school and junior high-school players

Excerpt: The incidence of sports injury is higher during competitions or games than in practice. Especially in female adolescents, the risk of anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) injury rapidly increases during games. The magnitude and patterns of ground reaction force (GRF) affect the knee valgus moment, which potentially increases mechanical stress on the ACL. Some studies recently estimated the GRF without using a force platform or quantified the physical load during game situations by using an inertiasensor. However, the competitive movement with greater load for peripubertal players is unknown. The

Differences in tendon properties in elite badminton players with or without patellar tendinopathy

Excerpt: The aim of this study was to examine the structural and mechanical properties of the patellar tendon in elite male badminton players with and without patellar tendinopathy. Seven players with unilateral patellar tendinopathy (PT group) on the lead extremity (used for forward lunge) and nine players with no current or previous patellar tendinopathy (CT group) were included. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to assess distal patellar tendon dimensions. Patellar tendon mechanical properties were assessed using simultaneous tendon force and deformation measurements.

Excerpt: In this study, we used biomechanics testing on the typical badminton movement to compare the shoe hardness effect on the body kinetics response. Six excellent badminton players participated in this test. Heels of ground reaction forces and landing time were collected through force-measuring system and video analysis system. Our results indicate that the peak ground reaction forces was less when wearing the badminton shoes with less hardness sole, but no statistically significant difference. Meanwhile, the heel landing time was less in the shoes with higher hardness sole. Badminton shoes are no

The main goal of this research was to identify the correlation between selected socio-demographic, health-related, and sports-related predictors with doping factors in three different types of sports, which are (1) highly energetic demanding sports (weightlifting), (2) highly technical demanding sports (racquet sports), and (3) highly tactical demanding sports (sailing). The research consisted of three separate studies, each one

Differential training facilitates early consolidation in motor learning

Excerpt: Current research demonstrates increased learning rates in differential learning (DL) compared to repetitive training. To date, little is known on the underlying neurophysiological processes in DL that contribute to superior performance over repetitive practice. In the present study, we measured electroencephalographic (EEG) brain activation patterns after DL and repetitive badminton serve training. Twenty-four semi-professional badminton players performed badminton serves in a DL and repetitive training schedule in a within-subjects design. EEG activity was recorded from 19 electrodes accordin

Source: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/1612197X.2008.9671852
Excerpt: Mental chronometry is a well‐established method for analyzing dynamic mental images. The present study extends a previous focus on closed skills to include the open skill of badminton sequences. Accuracy of mental duration was examined as a function of task complexity and expertise level in a total of 45 participants of varying expertise (novices, intermediates, and experts from national leagues). They had to both play and mentally rehearse defined badminton sequences of five, seven, and nine strokes.

Does shoe heel design influence ground reaction forces and knee moments during maximum lunges in elite and intermediate badminton players?

Category: Biomechanics
Author: Lam, W.-K. et al.
Year: 2017
Language: English
Region: Pan America

Excerpt: Lunge is one frequently executed movement in badminton and involves a unique sagittal footstrike angle of more than 40 degrees at initial ground contact compared with other manoeuvres. This study examined if the shoe heel curvature design of a badminton shoe would influence shoe-ground kinematics, ground reaction forces, and knee moments during lunge. Eleven elite and fifteen intermediate players performed five left-forward maximum lunge trials with Rounded Heel Shoe (RHS), Flattened Heel Shoe (FHS), and Standard Heel Shoes (SHS). Shoe-ground kinematics, ground reaction forces, and knee moment

Excerpt: We apply domain adaptation to the problem of recognizing common actions between differing court-game sport videos (in particular tennis and badminton games). Actions are characterized in terms of HOG3D features extracted at the bounding box of each detected player, and thus have large intrinsic dimensionality. The techniques evaluated here for domain adaptation are based on estimating linear transformations to adapt the source domain features in order to maximize the similarity between posterior PDFs for each class in the source domain and the expected posterior PDF for each class in the targe

Excerpt: Anterior knee tendon problems are seldom reported in badminton players although the game is obviously stressful to the lower extremities. 72 elite badminton players were interviewed about training, pain and injuries. The participants were scanned with high-end ultrasound equipment. Colour Doppler was used to examine the tendons of 64 players before a match and 46 players after a match. Intratendinous colour Doppler flow was measured as colour fraction (CF). The tendon complex was divided into three loci: the quadriceps tendon, the proximal patellar tendon and the insertion on the tibial tubero
