Source: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/296109633_How_do_national_badminton_players_utilize_advanced_visual_cues_to_anticipate_an_attacker's_intent
Excerpt: The purpose of this research was to compare the response to forehand smash using the visual search strategy with variability in the badminton player’s skill level, define the essential variable in reception and application of information, and forming the perceptual skill and practice program with respect to the conclusion of the experiment. In order to test our hypothesis an experiment was conducted with seven national players in the highest stage of Ericsson’s (1996) five stages of expertise. The players each served a long serve, and then reacted to the opponent’s forehand

How does knee pain affect trunk and knee motion during badminton forehand lunges?

Excerpt: Badminton requires extensive lower extremity movement and a precise coordination of the upper extremity and trunk movements. Accordingly, this study investigated motions of the trunk and the knee, control of dynamic stability and muscle activation patterns of individuals with and without knee pain. Seventeen participants with chronic knee pain and 17 healthy participants participated in the study and performed forehand forward and backward diagonal lunges. This study showed that those with knee pain exhibited smaller knee motions in frontal and horizontal planes during forward lunge but great

How hard am i training? Using smart phones to estimate sport activity intensity

Excerpt: Smart phones are increasingly being used to track and recognize different types of activity. However, the task of using smart phones to infer the intensity of sport activities has not received a lot of attention yet. Therefore, we study how off-the-shelf smart phones with built-in accelerometers can be used to estimate the intensity of recreational sport activities. We focus on finding the most appropriate model along with a set of high level acceleration features that could be used to predict heart rate during a sport activity on a resource constrained smart phone device. We collect more tha

How to use the elasticity of a badminton racket to increase its speed by 80%?

Excerpt: Badminton rackets generate the highest particle velocities among all sports (137 m.s-1 ) (Cohen, 2014). Here, we investigate the role of elasticity on this particularity. Racket stiffness and mass properties likely influence the impact and restitution coefficient (Montagny 2003). In the present study, we investigatethe difference of velocity obtained with or without the elasticity of the racket in two different experiments. The first one allows to assess the flexible/rigid velocity ratio in a linear motion using a mechanical actuator. The second one aims to compare this result with human moti

Excerpt: The hypothenar hammer syndromw is a rather rare vascular injury. It is seen in a posttraumatic digital ischemia caused by occlusion of the distal ulnar altery at the level of the hamate bone. It characteristically occurs in the dominant hand of middle-aged men whose occupational or recreatioal activities requires the use of the hand as a hammer. we report a case of this syndrome in a young female elite badminton player who subsequently underwent micronascular reconstruction and returned to competitive sports.

Excerpt: Shoulder pain is one amongst the common joint pain in recreational players. The shoulder pain hampers most of the activities of daily living due to restriction of range of motion at the joint and pain. Physiotherapy helps in relieving the pain by using various techniques and modalities. M2T is a myofascial release technique which helps in mobilization of the adherent fascia hence relieving pain and improving range of motion. 7 recreational shoulder pain subjects between the age group 18-30 years were assesed from the KLE University’s Indoor Stadium, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Nehru N

Excerpt: The present study suggests that the game has become more intensive and consequently argues for a change in the metabolic demands on all the bioenergy systems necessitating a higher resting time. To the best of our knowledge, this study was the first longitudinal study on elite Badminton game. It clearly showed a change of the temporal structure of the Badminton game with significant fluctuations in the rally time, resting time, number of shots per rally and an important increase in the shot frequency (+34.0%), and a decrease in the effective playing time (-34.5%). Moreover, this work showed t

Excerpt: In this paper, we designed and implemented IoT sensors based badminton motion analysis and training system that can be readily used by badminton players with PC. Unlike the traditional badminton training system which uses signals of the flags by coach, the proposed electronic training system used IoT sensors to automatically detect and analysis the motions for badminton players. The proposed badminton motion analysis and training system has the advantage with low power, because it communicates with the program through BLE communication. The badminton motion analysis system automatically measu

Implementation of IMU Sensor for elbow movement measurement of badminton players

Excerpt: This paper gives an insight on the design and development of a mobile measurement device to measure the elbow joint movement of a Badminton player. Badminton is one of the fastest racket-based sport. Since a human eye alone is not capable of capturing all these fast movements the usage of high processing optometric system became a popularity but the downside is these systems are expensive and large in size. The proposed solution is to develop a reasonably cheap and small size mobile measurement device utilizing the miniature sensor technology which can perform the task capturing the badminton

Excerpt: Saccadic eye movement is a short rapid and abrupt movement of the eye occurring in fixating from one point to another. The demand of eye movement in sport vision is crucial to locate visual targets and stabilize images on the retina. Athletes were reported to have better visual abilities than non-athletes. In this study, athletes who actively played badminton (n = 20) and non-badminton players (n = 20) aged between 12 and 18 years old were recruited. Electrooculography (EOG) was employed for analysis of saccadic eye movements. The clinical EOG made indirect measurement to record the eye movem

Increased complexities in visual search behavior in skilled players for a self-paced aiming task

Excerpt: Accordingly, this study examined skill-related differences in visual behavior during the badminton singles serve. Skilled (n = 12) and less skilled (n = 12) participants performed 30 serves to a live opponent, while real-time eye movements were captured using a mobile gaze registration system. Frame-by-frame analyses of 662 serves were made and the skilled players took a longer preparatory time before serving. Visual behavior of the skilled players was characterized by significantly greater number of fixations on more areas of interest per trial than the less skilled. In addition, the skill
