Language: English
Region: Europe
Source: https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/e/9781134077748/chapters/10.4324%2F9780203894873-31
Excerpt: In sports such as squash, badminton and tennis, the ability to anticipate an opponent’s intentions is crucial to high level performance (Williams et al., 1999). The racket sports are played at tremendous speed, particularly at the highest level, such that the time available to respond often exceeds basic human information processing constraints related to reaction time and movement time. Although on occasion the costs associated with an incorrect anticipation judgement may outweigh the potential benefits (James et al., 2005), typically, players do not have the luxury to react to an opponent

Excerpt: The Badcamp agility test was created to evaluate agility of badminton players. The Badcamp is a valid and reliable test, however, a doubt about the need for the use of this test exists as simpler tests could provide similar information about agility in badminton players. Thus, the aim of this study was to examine the specificity of the Badcamp, comparing the performance of badminton players and athletes from other sports in the Badcamp and the shuttle run agility test (SRAT). Sixty-four young male and female athletes aged between 14 and 16 years participated in the study. They were divided int

Region: Europe
Source: https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781136739057/chapters/10.4324%2F9781315024752-47
Excerpt: Athletic identity is the degree to which an individual identifies with the role of the sportsperson (Brewer, Van Raalte, & Linder, in press). Although high levels of athletic identity may signifY a commitment to excellence in sport, there may be risks associated with a strong and exclusive identification of the self with the role of sportsperson (Brewer et al., in press). Research has shown that athletic identity is negatively correlated with adjustment to sport injury (Brewer, in press) and sport career termination (Hinitz, 1988).

Athletic training in badminton players modulates the early C1 component of visual evoked potentials: A preliminary investigation

Category: Exercise Physiology
Author: Jin, H., et al.
Year: 2010
Language: English
Region: Europe
Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20854849
Excerpt: One basic question in brain plasticity research is whether individual life experience in the normal population can affect very early sensory-perceptual processing. Athletes provide a possible model to explore plasticity of the visual cortex as athletic training in confrontational ball games is quite often accompanied by training of the visual system. We asked professional badminton players to watch video clips related to their training experience and predict where the ball would land and examined whether they differed from non-player controls in the elicited C1, a visual evoked potential index
