BWF Event Management Level 2 Course Piloted in Paris

December 26, 2019

In October of this year, the Event Management Level 2 pilot course was launched, in conjunction with the YONEX French Open in Paris. Part of BWF’s membership capacity-building efforts, the course represents a key component in the Event Management pathway for Member Association personnel. The pathway starts with an online course covering the basics of event management, which is a pre-requisite for the Level 1 face-to-face course. The Level 1 course, run through the Continental Confederations, is aimed at helping members get ready to stage continental (Grade 3) tournaments. The Level 2 course, run by BWF and the World Academy of Sport, is designed to support those Member Associations who are looking to take the next step towards putting on a Grade 2 tournament.

The pilot course included nine participants, coming from six Member Associations as well as from Badminton Europe and Badminton Pan Am. In addition, the course was attended by three observers from the organisation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Course topics, ranging from cross-functional planning, to sponsorship, to TV and media coverage, were presented by experts from BWF and World Academy of Sport.  Over the three course days, participants enjoyed interactive classroom sessions, interspersed with valuable opportunities to go behind the scenes at the French Open and observe different operational areas in action.

The participants mentioned aspects such as strategic planning, creative thinking, and the interaction with tournament personnel among the highlights of the experience.

The BWF would like to thank the French Federation of Badminton (FFBaD) for welcoming all of us with professionalism and never-ending good cheer.
