Choosing to Lead

Overview

The Choosing to Lead online programme serves as the foundational step of the BWF Leaders Pathway. These courses aim to empower participants to explore the fundamentals of leadership within the sports industry.

By the courses’ conclusion, participants will be able to differentiate between leadership and management, describe approaches to leading people, setting strategies, creating impactful events, leveraging technology and running organisations effectively. Through self-reflection, participants will also articulate their leadership development aspirations, enabling them to plan their own badminton leadership journey

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, potential leaders will be able to:

  • Differentiate between leadership and management within the sports industry.
  • Describe approaches for motivating teams, building cohesion, and resolving conflicts effectively.
  • Articulate strategies for setting organisational goals and creating impactful event plans within the badminton context.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of leveraging technology, including AI, to enhance leadership and foster innovation in the badminton industry.
  • Recognise the value of data for making informed leadership decisions.
  • Recognise how evolving sport consumption trends necessitate adaptable leadership strategies.
  • Identify key principles of sports governance that promote transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct.
  • Recognise the role of leadership in influencing team dynamics and shaping organisational culture.
  • Engage in self-reflection to assess personal leadership strengths and areas for improvement and create a personalised leadership development plan for badminton.

Course Registration

If you are interested in BWF’s Choosing to Lead online programme, you can try out the Level 1 course for free. The Level 2 and Level 3 courses have a cost of $10 US dollars each (limited BWF scholarships available to each National Federation).

A Choosing to Lead certificate is issued upon successful completion of all three online courses.
