The BWF, Badminton Pan Am Confederation (BPAC) and the Federación Mexicana de Bádminton (FEMEBA) joined forces to host an exhilarating AirBadminton Festival and Competition in Aguascalientes, Mexico on from 19 – 21 July 2024. This event featured spirited competition among players aged 15, 17, and 19, who participated in teams of three.
The format of the festival was unique and inclusive, with teams composed of members from the same or different countries, and no distinction was made between female and male triples. Eighteen teams competed, creating a vibrant and diverse atmosphere.
One of the standout features of this festival was the absence of official referees. Instead, players refereed their own matches, promoting a culture of honesty and fair play. This self-officiated approach fostered camaraderie and mutual respect among participants, making the event as much about building friendships as it was about competition.
Held alongside the Pan Am Individual Junior Championship, the event was marked by positive vibes and a strong sense of community. Participants and spectators alike enjoyed the spirit of the game and the beautiful outdoor setting. Photos from the event, capturing these memorable moments.
The event was a true team effort, with contributions from various member associations. Participants hailed from Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Paraguay. This diversity added to the richness of the experience and highlighted the unifying power of sports.
BPAC and FEMEBA appreciate the ongoing support from the community and are excited about the future of AirBadminton in the Pan Am region. This event has undoubtedly helped raise the profile of this new outdoor game, showcasing its potential and the enthusiasm it generates.
