BWF Head of Continental Development John Shearer attended the meeting to present the various programmes and resources that are available to assist Special Olympics Programmes in introducing badminton to athletes with intellectual disability.
BWF’s Shuttle Time and AirBadminton initiatives have attracted growing interest in badminton within Special Olympics, with 103 National Special Olympics Programmes now offering badminton globally.
BWF intends to work closely with SONA to grow badminton in the SONA region, with a goal to see badminton as a competitive sport in the Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota in 2026.
