Education Scholarship Programme 2025 for Young Athletes

Badminton World Federation (BWF) and World Academy of Sport (WaoS) have opened the new cycle of scholarships for the WAoS Athlete Certificate programme. This online course has been developed for aspiring young athletes aged between 15 and 18 who want to gain a broader understanding of the tools needed to become successful and knowledgeable athletes.

Since 2020, 623 young athletes (362 boys and 261 girls) from 80 countries have benefitted from this scholarship.

In the 2025 cycle, BWF & WAoS are offering 100 scholarships per Member Association to access the online course. The course has been designed and written by content writers who work regularly with athletes and has been overseen by an expert reference group representing several International Federations including the BWF. All applicants will need to be in good standing with their National Badminton Federation. BWF will ensure a good balance of gender in the process of selecting successful applicants.

The selected applicants will receive a full scholarship to allow them to participate in the programme. The BWF will notify the National Badminton Federation and applicants of the outcome of their applications by the end of May.

Please note that the maximum number of scholarships awarded per National Badminton Federation is 100.

WAoS Athlete Certificate programme

  • This programme was developed by WAoS for aspiring young athletes between 15 to 18 years of age who want to gain a broader understanding of the tools needed to successfully manage their sporting careers.
  • The course has been designed to be athlete friendly, in consultation with a number of International Federations including the BWF.
  • The online course can be completed within 4.5 hours.
  • All applicants will need to be in good standing with their National Badminton Federation.
