The full suite of videos from the BWF World Coaching Conference, held in Paris on 29 and 30 August 2025, is online here.

The World Coaching Conference is held every year alongside the BWF World Championships, and is aimed at bringing renowned experts in badminton, Para badminton and physical and mental training to present their views to an audience comprising mainly of national coaches, helping to widely disseminate the latest knowledge in these fields. This year’s conference once again brought some of the best-known experts from the fields of badminton coaching, physical and mental training, besides researchers and academics to dwell on diverse themes.

As Malaysian singles coach Kenneth Jonassen says in the introductory video on the relationship between player and coach: “We as coaches have to remember that, in order for us to have success, it goes through the players. So we have to follow their dream, to keep them on the right path. But it is their dream, and it’s for us to support them in the best way possible. Keep believing in them… the mutual trust between the player and coach is very important.”

The World Coaching Conference began with FFBaD President Franck Laurent welcoming the delegates. Beginning the presentations was sports performance consultant and mindset coach Allistair McCaw, who, in his presentation titled Driving Excellence as a Coach’, spoke on the four key areas every coach should be focussing on.

McCaw was followed by 2011 world champion Wang Yihan who made a presentation on building attacking strategies in women’s singles. Assisted on court by former German international Xu Huaiwen, Wang’s presentation was focussed on building pressure from the very first shot. Wang also made a second presentation the next day, on consistency, shot selection and mental awareness.

Apart from Wang, the audience was treated former World Championships silver medallist and current Hong Kong China coach Wong Choong Hann and Danish women’s doubles greats Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl holding forth on tactical nuances in the game.

Addressing a crucial aspect of Para badminton – the Wheelchair – was Ilona Alberca, Doctor of Biomechanics and Sport Science at the University of Toulon, who presented a biomechanical study of performances and injury risks.

Among the other videos are presentations by renowned S&C coach Cristian Luque Manjon (on training load management); researchers Johan Pion and Lode Gossens (Benchmarks for Identification and Biobanding in Badminton), Mildred Loiseau Taupin (Anticipation and Decision-Making in High Performance Sport); Elisa Chanteur and Loris Dufay (Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Preparation and Impact), and Stefan Ljurzkanov from Loughborough University (Future of AI Powered Coaching).
