Badminton to Counter Drug Abuse in Sierra Leone

An innovative badminton project to combat drug abuse among children and young people in Sierra Leone received enthusiastic response and has led to promising initiatives such as a badminton academy. The “Smash The Streets” project was conducted from 26 November to 17 December 2023 in Makeni, Lunsar and Western Area of Sierra Leone.

Dorsa Yavarivafa: A Refugee’s Journey of Olympic Dreams

In the world of sports, tales of determination and steadfast spirit often stand out as the most inspiring. Dorsa Yavarivafa’s journey from her birthplace in Iran to her dream of becoming a badminton champion is one such story. Born in Tehran, her life took an unexpected turn when, due to safety reasons, they were forced to flee the country. Her father, a semi-professional table tennis player who had introduced her to badminton at the age of nine, had to stay behind.

Reaching Out to Young Minds

The BWF Player Education – Dual Career initiative delivered from 25 September to 4 October 2023 during the BWF World Junior Championships in Spokane, offered three activities: information booth, focus group sessions and IOC Athlete365 Career+ Self Discovery workshop.
